In today’s day in age where you have to agree to terms and conditions to install an app on your mobile device or log into just about any website, we deal with contracts and agreements all the time, whether we realize it or not.

wrhr24[1]And if you have to sign a contract to buy a car, mortgage a house or something as simple as rent a movie from Redbox, why wouldn’t you want a contract covering and protecting your wages and working conditions?

Your employer has numerous contracts protecting their business. They’ve got contracts covering their vendors & suppliers, their lease or rent, their equipment. Virtually every aspect of their business is regulated to protect their interests. It makes sense for your employer to protect its interests, so why wouldn’t you want to do the same? (more…)

Quest Diagnostics Workers Vote “Yes” to Join UFCW Local 135

Jan 29, 2016 – Quest Diagnostics workers in San Diego voted to join UFCW Local 135. The workers join a growing movement of phlebotomist and lab technicians who have come together from the Northwest to the Southwest to raise standards in the health care industry. Workers wanted to join a union in order improve their jobs and workplace. L135-Quest-e1453908032960[1]Better wages, respect on the job, stable schedules, and vacation and sick days are some of the top priorities for workers. Negotiations for their first contract begins next month.

Quest Diagnostics is a leading diagnostics services provider in oncology and genetics. Quest Diagnostics annually serves one in three adult Americans and half the physicians and hospitals in the United States, and has 45,000 employees.  Given the company’s prominence, workers hope that through the growing power of their combined voice, Quest Diagnostics workers will be able to influence and improve standards for workers throughout the industry.

With the encouragement and support of their coworkers, these workers are coming together and finding their voice.

LabCorp acquires Safe Foods — October 27, 2015 – Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings has acquired Safe Foods International Holdings LLC and its two operating companies, The National Food Laboratory and the International Food Network, for an undisclosed amount.

The National Food Laboratory provides pesticide residue analyses, among other services.

LabCorp to bid for a $1B UK-based testing firm? Now’s the time for a Union contract!

LabCorp reportedly pursuing purchase of $1B UK-based testing firm — Nov 3, 2015 – Laboratory Corp. of America is reportedly among the bidders for an international life sciences testing company based in the United Kingdom and valued at more than $1 billion.

British news outlet Sky News reports that LabCorp (NYSE: LH) submitted a bid last week for LGC, the formerly state-run forensic analysis company that has expanded greatly since being sold by the British government in 1996.
